This isn't going to be a long review because I don't want to spoil anything. Robert Pattinson is very good in the titular role of Mickey. If you came for sci-fi black comedy, Mickey delivers, but the rest of the movie falls short a bit. Mark Ruffalo's performance as Captain Marshall, a twice failed billionaire politician turned space colonizer, started off okay but became less funny as he, over the course of the movie, slowly dials up from slimy politician all the way to a pretty bad Trump impersonation. There's a scene later in the movie where he gives a speech in the colony ships mess hall where a number of supporters in red caps are sprinkled through the crowd.
Toni Collette plays Marshall's wife and Yifa she is stunning as always in her ability to completely inhabit a persona. The narcissism, idiocy, and greed of Yifa are a terrifying combination, she could have easily handled the villain role on her own.
The rest of the movie was pretty average, and maybe a little long, there is a whole subplot about colonialism that could have been more but wasn't. Naomi Ackie turned in a strong performance as Mickey's cop girlfriend, and Steven Yeun does a good job of making you hate him as Mickey's "best friend".
Watch this one if you like black comedy and sci-fi, or Robert Pattison.
